	ChemUnity.com announces first transaction Arnhem, The Netherlands - April 25, 2000 - After five weeks of intensive beta testing, ChemUnity.com, the European online sourcing platform for chemical commodities, announces the first fully operational transaction was confirmed last Friday. In this transaction DSM, the Dutch chemical group, bought one full truckload of acetone from Sasol Chemicals Europe. "ChemUnity.com offers an interesting platform for the procurement of chemicals in this volume segment", says Malcolm Saggers, Director Chemicals & Raw Materials of DSM Purchasing Services. "DSM is continuously exploring ways in which its business processes can be optimised using internet related technology and expects almost all of its purchases and 50% of its sales will be web-enabled within 3 years." Sasol's Managing Director, Peter Norton was very pleased to have completed their first sale over the Internet with ChemUnity.com. "We found the whole process smooth and seamless. With their target on individual truck sales, ChemUnity offers a specific focus which we believe will enable Sasol to continue to efficiently service this market section, but now via the Internet, channel of our customers choice". To date five acetone suppliers have registered, while several others are expected to sign on in the coming weeks. To maintain focus, ChemUnity.com will only activate a few products per month, preferring to concentrate on making sure each inquiry reaches as many potential suppliers as possible. Butyl Acetate, Soda Ash and Caustic Soda are on the list of products to be activated soon. How ChemUnity.com works: Approved buyers can place inquiries, defining the product, grade, concentration and packaging they require and when and where to deliver. ChemUnity.com forwards those inquiries to all the suppliers of that specific product in efficient daily batches. Within a day a selection is made and if the best offer is within the range indicated by the buyer, the transaction - including credit insurance - is confirmed. Compared to other e-market models, the advantages are that buyers can be sure to get an offer within a day at the best price available in the market and suppliers are able to see and respond to all inquiries reviewing them just once a day, while knowing that all payments are guaranteed.
